Well, ... c'mon ... 'fess up ! I admit to being a bit of a geek. I have been into computers since 1993 when I was given an old "186" with a green monochrome monitor. Remember autoexec.bat ? ... Now I am not extremely geeky or I'd know more than I do. Since I am in full-time ministry and cannot afford internet access, I spend alot of time at the public library. I carry around a Lexar 1 gig memory chip with a bunch of portable applications. I no longer use Microsoft Word anymore because it is overpriced. While reading PC World I found a neat story about PortableApps.com
I was immediately hooked and downloaded the entire PortableApps Suite. Click on the link and see for yourself. I got sick of copying and pasting from the garbage MS product on my computer at home to Word on the librarys computer. I have been getting on the Open Source bandwagon. All software was supposed to be free until someone stole and got greedy. I don't use Microsoft Office, I use OpenOffice.org
It has all the same stuff as MS but it's free. I don't use Photoshop. First and foremost, I can't afford it. I use another opensource program called Gimp
It does almost as much as Photoshop except that the learning curve is a bit steeper. Most important ... it's FREE ! I read a book by Akkana Peck called Beginning Gimp From Novice To Professional
That filled in all the blanks about the program. There's also many forums to assist with the program.
I guess that confirms my geekiness, How about you ?
